National Affiliates
Philos

The Philos, an affiliate organization to Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., was founded in 1943. The name Philo, which means "friend" in Greek, was given to the affiliates in 1954, when they were officially organized and formed by alumnae chapters of the Sorority. Sigma realized the importance of the prestige, goodwill, and cooperation of women who, for various reasons, were not members of Greek letter organizations. They sought out and found women of the highest caliber, with outstanding religious, educational, civic and social qualities, women who were stable, substantial, dependable and who exerted the energy and willingness to work as active participants in helping Sigma Gamma Rho render valuable service to the community.
In 1980 the Philos were organized on a national level and have grown to represent hundreds of women organized on a regional level as well. Within the five national regions, the Philo affiliates have over 44 chapters and 420 members. They have contributed countless hours of community service and thousands of dollars to aid Sigma Gamma Rho's aim to enhance the quality of life within every community.
